I'm thinking into updating the home page and make it look like another wiki I administer:
As for the witches list I was thinking about a table like this one:
And for witches with few, and almost no information something like the table from this page:
So, what do you think?
Regarding the list of witches, having them ordered by countries is very convenient and helpful. I use the list all the time and, in my opinion, if it was ordered by alphabetic order only without sub-parts for narrowing the search (in this case countries), it will lose all its usefulness as being a very quick way to access multiple witches pages at once.
That being said, keeping the current order and adding tables would be great as it would allow to have organized additional information such as teams and ranks.
For the front page, several users have requested a better layout without so much empty spaces. Making a page using templates like the other wiki will be really good. Keeping some of the current features but in a better layout would be appreciated (such as the links to main characters pages and the featured article section).
Regarding merging the characters with only a name and a country into a single page, that's also a good idea. I'm not a fan of those blank pages with just a name. However, I think characters with no art but information such as ranks, squadron, striker units, etc... should have their own page.
I'm gonna make the witches table a sortable table, where users can sort the contents in the order they want. So far the categories for the columns are: name, birth date (month, day), nationality, current unit.
Tell me the names of the protagonists of the different manga and light novels, I'll add them to the table I'm going to put in the home page.
I think this would be a fantastic idea regarding the character list, especially being able to have a sortable table.
As for the front page, it would definitely be nice to have that finally be updated after all this time! Although if possible.. imo it would be nice to keep the Agahari character portrait links as they were, simply for tradition's sake, although I would understand wanting to replace it if you wanted to stick with official artwork.
Either way, I look forward to seeing how these layout updates turn out later on!
If I can get the portraits work I'll do it.
Yeah, goodluck with that! I know it can be a pain messing with that stuff, so even if you can't do it that's still fine.
Sorry for the late reply, I see you already got the main protagonists.
There is also Katou Keiko who is the main protagonist of all the Africa light novels and an important character of the doujinshi and manga of the Africa series. They are not very well documented and well known within the fanbase so up to you if you want to add Keiko.
Additionally, Fernandia Malvezzi is the protagonist of the 504th manga for the most part.
Other manga and light novels are mostly backstories and side stories for the 501st and 502nd series, so I guess that's all for the main protagonists.
I should mention, in case it wasn't noticed, that it still says "VTuber Wiki" in white text on the front page. There is also still some funkiness going on within the bottom of the page as well.
Honestly, I have some disagreements with how this was handled. While I do like the new layout, I believe the sections added are... Not what the main page ought to focus on. "Protagonists" isn't really important since protagonists can change (502, technically Misfits/507), or are barely a necessary thing to list due to Witches focusing on all its characters somewhat equally. 504 especially barely puts the Red Pants in the spotlight as protagonists due to how much it focuses on other characters as well.
Additionally, putting 501 with the stylized and clean icons and then having 502 be a mess of uncropped images looks really, really bad. It just makes the section look cluttered, especially since there aren't any names listed. At the very least I'd suggest cropping the images to portraits, but honestly I dislike giving that treatment to only 502 as a whole. The western community, from what I've seen, has a serious issue with barely reading any of the translated media, and only watching the anime. Giving a section to only 502 (and I suppose 501, though at least with them they are the most important JFW narratively speaking) will only serve to support that mindset of ignoring the other media, which I think hurts the fanbase as a whole.
If I can make a suggestion, I feel like replacing the two sections with one on units would really help. It's easier to get the images looking nice, and it gives people a link to each JFW and reasonably sized unit (Isle of Wight, Storm Witches, etc) so they can read about them, the media they're involved in, and see a list of witches who fight in each unit. It's a far better reference for the front page than protagonists and 502 in my opinion, and I think it would help to bring lesser-known units to light, such as 505, LLV24, etc. As it stands now, there's no reference to either of those two units on the main page, and essentially no way a newcomer would ever find out about them unless they did some digging, especially in LLV24's case.
Again, these are just my thoughts, but I really don't think the way it was done highlights all the important parts of the wiki.
Sadly, I must admit that I sorta miss how the old one looked in retrospect. Originally, it only really needed just a few tweaks and updates that's all.
The new front page layout is fine too but it still needs a lot of work, as stated above, and I also agree that the current state of the images makes it look a bit messy, and that protagonists aren't really too important to have cluttering the front page. Tbh I thought I was the only one thinking this, otherwise I would have mentioned it earlier lol... But in the end its all up to you though, and felt I should just mention my thoughts on this too.
What do you think?
