Mori Ranmaru is a witch based on Mori Ranmaru, a page and vassal of Oda Nobunaga.
Background
Mori Ranmaru served Oda Nobunaga when he, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu were battling to unify Fuso.
During the Honno-ji Incident, when Akechi Mitsuhide attempted to betray and kill Nobunaga; Mori Ranmaru was instrumental in preventing her Lord's death. Though flying was difficult enough alone; she managed to fly Nobunaga out of Honno-ji, and eventually across a great distance until the two arrived at Takamatsu Castle, where Nobunaga's ally Toyotomi Hideyoshi was involved in a siege.
In the literature from the time, it is commonly recounted that Mori Ranmaru eventually became Oda Nobunaga's lover.
Mori would follow Nobunaga as he went on to become known as a reformer whose actions and policies lead to the opening of Fuso to the outside world.
According to Inagaki Mami in Witches of the Sphinx 3, Mori Ranmaru is a relation from the Sengoku Period on her mother's side.
