Strike Witches: Suomus Misfits Squadron (ストライクウィッチーズ スオムスいらん子中隊, Sutoraiku Witchīzu Suomusu iranko chūtai) is a light novel series written by Noboru Yamaguchi. This is the first light novel series in the Strike Witches franchise. A fourth volume was planned to be released in spring 2009 but never came out. The novels were later released in Kindle digital books as well.

A reboot was announced back in 2018, with Volume 1 later being released on October 1st, 2018. Due to the existence of the ongoing reboot series, the contents of the original light novels are now technically retconned as it is no longer the main source of canon regarding this particular squadron. However, since the characters and events mostly remain the same (so far) it likely will not be an issue, but should still at least be noted in case divergences occur later on.

In 1939, as the European mainland faced the crisis of a Neuroi invasion of unprecedented scale, Imperial Army and Navy Witches from the far off Fuso Empire were sent to the battlefield as volunteer soldiers. One such Imperial Army Witch, Anabuki Tomoko, an ace and hero to the people after her outstanding service during the Neuroi raid known as the "Fuso Sea Incident", had been expecting to be sent to Karlsland, where the heaviest fighting was going on. However, she was instead deployed to the northernmost extreme of Europe, Suomus. There she meets the rest of her future fellow squadron members, none of whom had ever made a name for themselves in their former countries, instead being treated nearly like outcasts, half-baked witches without any talent or motivation. It's now up to the "Misfits Squadron", or officially the "Suomus Independent Volunteer Air Squadron", to find out how they can stand up to the Neuroi menace.

Synopsis

In Strike Witches: Suomus Misfits Squadron Moving Up(ストライクウィッチーズ スオムスいらん子中隊がんばる, Sutoraiku Witchīzu Suomusu iranko chūtai ganbaru), flying maidens have gathered in a remote area to fight an unidentified enemy who suddenly appeared in the world. However, the only Witches who were sent here have "no motivation", "no ability", and "no guts". What will be the fate of the motivated Tomoko?

In Strike Witches: Suomus Misfits Squadron in Love (ストライクウィッチーズ 弐ノ巻―スオムスいらん子中隊恋する, Sutoraiku Witchīzu Suomusu iranko chūtai koisuru), the Misfits Squadron story continue! Itokawa, a handsome maintenance engineer, appeared in front of the Witches with new weapons. Tomoko is gradually attracted by the warm Itokawa!?

In Strike Witches: Clash in the Suomus Misfits Squadron (ストライクウィッチーズ 参ノ巻 スオムスいらん子中隊はじける, Sutoraiku Witchīzu Suomusu iranko chūtai Hajikeru), Flight Sergeant Cenni from the Romagna Air Force join the Misfits Squadron. Haruka was jealous of the relationship between the beautiful girl and Tomoko... In this novel, Zero no Tsukaima's author Yamaguchi Noboru depicts the story of beautiful girls fighting.
