The X-21 Class Neuroi is a large, or possibly even a Capital, type Neuroi that was first seen when engaged by the 501st Joint Fighter Wing. The Neuroi was destroyed by Mio using Reppumaru.

Background

The X-21 Neuroi first appeared over Romagna and was eventually destroyed by Sakamoto's Reppuzan during the 501st Joint Fighter Wing's aerial engagement against it.

The X-21 has a swept back wing, dart shaped design.

Weapons

The X-21's weapons consist of tactically applied beam port clusters, with one small cluster of beam ports are found on the nose tip of the Neuroi craft, and an additional cluster of six beam ports are found on either side at the trailing edge of its wings. At the very front of the underside of the Neuroi is a much larger beam port cluster that takes up almost the entire front half of the Neuroi's fuselage.

The nose and trailing wing beam port clusters appear to act as point defensive weapons against attacks in either direction from the front, sides, rear and above. The large beam port that makes up most of the frontal fuselage underside meanwhile seems to allow a wide barrage against ground targets and attacks from bellow.

These beam port clusters appear to allow the Neuroi to make a strong offensive attack and defensive countermeasure against enemy engagements, being able to go as far as to fire multiple beam attacks at once and prioritizing the attack of multiple targets.

Abilities, Tactics and Behavior

While there was not a lot of time of the X-21 shown in battle to determine it's full retinue of abilities, tactics and general behavior, what can be observed is that when attacked, the X-21 appears to engage in heavy, sustained beam attacks against targets, even going so far as to fire multiple beams at targets from multiple directions.

However, after making it's attacks, it seems that it may require some arbitrary time period to pause between sustained attacks.

The X-21 is also likely to have the expected Neuroi Regeneration like all Neuroi with cores. As a Neuroi air unit: it also has the expected standard Neuroi flight abilities, although it seems to be a rather slow flying Neuroi.

Trivia

  • The inspiration of the X-21, the Horten Ho XIIIB, was originally a blueprint for a supersonic fighter prototype that was supposed to be able to fly from Germany to New York without refueling. [1]
  • While the X-21's aesthetic design is inspired by the Horten Ho XIIIB, a supersonic fighter prototype; the X-21 ironically appears to fly somewhat slowly, given that the Strike Witches were able to engage in dogfights with it without needing to catch up to its speed.
